Pedestrians and Cars don稚 mix--We need sidewalks on Captain O誰eal and Dryer Avenue!

Last week,  I met with the Daphne Public Safety Committee and with Mayor Small urging an immediate installation of sidewalks on the last remaining blocks of Captain O誰eal and Dryer Avenue surrounding Bayside Academy.  Both the Committee and Mayor Small were receptive to installation of the sidewalks; however, they have asked for a demonstration of need and community support to justify the expenditure of City funds.

The proposed Captain O誰eal/Dryer  sidewalk project is  now on the Public Works Committee agenda for Friday, August 28th.  In lieu of a petition demonstrating community support (Because quite frankly, I am afraid to stand in Capt. O誰eal痴 traffic seeking signatures) I would like to present emails or comments from anyone who has a position on the proposed sidewalks.

Please take a second and send me an email at susanzham@aol.com regarding the need for a safe corridor so that cars, children, teachers and other pedestrians can travel safely on Captain O誰eal and Dryer.  I intend to share these responses with the Public Works Committee, the Mayor and anyone else who will listen.  Because this issue impacts not only Bayside families but also recreational walkers and jogging clubs who enjoy Old Towne Daphne, please forward this email on to anyone else who you think would like to share a comment or two about the need for sidewalks on these heavily traveled streets.

Thanks for your help
